A senior Russia n minister is set to be removed from his position after more than a decade in the portfolio and following criticism of his handling of the invasion and war in Ukraine .
"Shoigu will continue to work in this sector , which he knows well," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, as reported by Russian state media. Mr Shoigu has been in charge of the Ukraine offensive, since Russia's invasion more than two years ago in February 2022, which was ordered by the Russian President.Mr Shoigu was also one of the subjects of Wagner mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin who publicly called out the Russian military for its actions in the conflict.The Wagner chief later died in a mysterious plane crash.
It would be some 18-years later before he was appointed as the defence minister following a scandal by his predecessor that saw him kicked out.
