As Australia continues to get its coronavirus crisis under control, NSW has high hopes the state could relax its strict lockdown measures in just a few weeks.

Speaking at a press conference this morning, Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she was treading carefully around getting people’s hopes up but also admitted the state’s coronavirus trends were looking good.reports NSW’s ministers are hoping some restrictions on restaurants, cafes, bars and gyms could be relaxed as early as May 1 to help small businesses – as long as locals can adhere to social distancing.

“So I don't want to raise expectations, but at the same time, there could be a chance, if the health experts deem it appropriate for us, to look at some relaxations.”NSW brought in strict social restrictions to stem the spread of coronavirus last month, ordering all non-essential businesses to close and capping the number of people at social gatherings.“At this stage, the restrictions are having a positive impact on the number.

“But that comes with risk. And I need to be very upfront about at that. Every time you relax a restriction, more people will get sick. More people will die. And it's a horrible situation to be in, but they're the choices and we need to be upfront about that but can I please ask everybody to stick to the rules.

Dreaming, just don’t come to WA, stay on your end

Isolation for months if necessity to slow /stop the spread ........deal with it, we need to make sure its safe for everyone....I DO NOT WANT AUSTRALIA TO BECOME LIKE EUROPE, USA... lets be sensible and cautious and hopefully in that time someone will make a break through

Guess nobody needs to buy their treadmills then

What are you doing? You are going to create a problem for the other states by saying that. Noone should ease any rules til there's No More Deaths. It'll be too difficult to reimplement or strengthen any of them. We need to coordinate the rules to Stop the Rule Breakers.

Parks are becoming a problem. Too many people sitting on the grass having chit chats. I thought we were only allowed out for: * Work * Attending 'essential services', Doctor, chemist, food, bank etc * Exercise (2 peeps only OR Parents + their kids) Exercise=Moving, not sitting

Lockdown restrictions can be relaxed but borders must continue to the shut to all foreigners for the foreseeable future and mandatory 2 week quarantine for all arrivals. Wuhan reopening is massive risk and the US and Europe are nowhere near out of the woods.

Too soon GladysB ScottMorrisonMP

That's crazy! Until vaccine or cure restrictions have to stay in place. re open things now and Im sorry to say GladysB you would have blood on your hands. Be smart, think smart. The mob are on board

There is only one way to say this: they will have a lot of blood on their hands if they do.

The main concern is keeping people isolated over the school holidays. Expect some relaxation - despite the risks - once holidays are over. But hard to see how we avoid dangerous flare ups.

Victoria's schools to reopen next weekPremier Daniel Andrews announces schools will reopen next week, as the state's coronavirus death toll rises to 11. This is so misleading. I must say 'digital issues' is a very polite way of saying 'screwed over by the NBN'. This is out of date already given he announced they'd go remote shortly after.
