An online campaign is underway to have one of Australia’s most loved animals introduced to New Zealand.
The World Wildlife Fund estimates around 1.25 billion animals have already perished in the perilous conditions, with thousands of koalas, kangaroos and other native species among those killed. The change.org petition is now calling for urgent action, arguing New Zealand’s ecosystem is ideal for ensuring the long-term survival of the koala.“Koalas are functionally extinct in Australia, and could thrive in New Zealand, as many other Australasian species do,” the campaign statement reads.

The eucalypts that koalas require don't occur naturally in NZ. The introduction of possums was a disaster & why the singular focus on Koalas? It's not the only species impacted. We should be concerned with restoring ecosystems, not merely a species that gets most media attention.

NZ doesn't have the right plants to sustain a koala population. Koala habitat is in South East Queensland, most of New South Wales and Victoria. Put a complete stop to habitat destruction, restore koala habitat, remove people from Koala habitat areas. Stop immigration.
