A public servant accused of rigging tens of millions of dollars worth of NSW government contracts in return for lavish kickbacks said he got swept up in a network of corruption | Rabe9

A public servant accused of rigging tens of millions of dollars worth of NSW government contracts in return for lavish kickbacks said he got swept up in a network of corruption.

They included a return flight from South Africa to Sydney for Mr Stein’s father-in-law in 2018, $20,000 for six televisions, private school fees and a $124,000 white Mercedes-Benz, which was registered in Ms Alexander’s name. Many of the contracts that were awarded over the 10-year period were below $250,000, which meant they did not require an open tender process, with just three contractors needing to apply.

'No principle’ of public finance says ‘optimal level’ of government debt is zero | Sky News AustraliaEconomist Saul Eslake says there is “no principle” of public finance or economics which states the “optimal level” of government debt is zero amid concerns about the nation’s projected $980 billion debt by 2024\u002F25. \n\n“Australia’s somewhat unusual in that we have had some years in our recent history when net debt has been zero or indeed even negative,” he said. \n\nMr Eslake said the UK government has always had “at least some debt” since the 1690s and there “hasn’t been a day” since 1776 that the US Federal Government has not carried debt. \n\n“Governments ... can afford to carry debt for long periods of time as long as they have the capacity to service that debt, that is, to meet the interest payments on it out of the revenue they have, without imposing crushing burdens on their taxpayers.\n\n“And desirably, as long as the debt which they’ve incurred has been put to productive uses that help generate the capacity to service it and ultimately pay it down”. \n\nMr Eslake said he is therefore not “unduly concerned” there is not yet a plan to pay off the debt by a “predetermined date”. \n SaulEslake So what happened to the Debt and Deficit Crisis that so triggered the LNP when Labor was in power?

SA Health investigating whether Victorian man caught coronavirus in Adelaide medi-hotelSouth Australian health authorities are investigating whether a man who was released from hotel quarantine — then tested positive for COVID-19 in Melbourne — acquired the virus while in isolation. Media revelling in it all. our Federal has had over a year to build appropriate Quarantine cabin style facilities across Australia. The States filled the gap with 95% efficiency. Cabin / holiday parks could have been leased months ago. So slack and such a shame. So the test and trace doesnt work The science we have is unreliable Quarantine is far from reliable And we still want to bring back dual nationals
