NSW Minister for Mental Health Bronwyn Taylor says “it means everything” for people in high-profile positions to be open about their mental health issues, as it can help break down commonly held perceptions about mental health.
“The more that we can break down the stigma, the more that we can talk about how we’re feeling, the better outcomes we’re going to get,” Ms Taylor told Sky News. “I saw that with my boss, the Deputy Premier, last year when he was very open about having mental health leave. “That makes such a difference because that means then that people who look up to you, see people in leadership positions, like what’s happened with this Australian athlete, and they can go wow okay, they’ve had the courage to come forward – so can I.
