Protesters have marched in Geraldton after a WA court acquitted a police officer of a murder charge over the death of Indigenous woman JC.Members of the Indigenous community in the WA city of Geraldton marched in the streets on Saturday, a day after a police officer was acquitted of murder over the 2019 death of a 29-year-old Yamitji woman, known as JC for cultural reasons.
The accused officer wept in the dock as the jury also returned a not guilty verdict to the lesser charge of manslaughter. "This is what we have to deal with in the state of Western Australia. This happens far too many times and it hurts, and it's wrong," she said. WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said the police force is continuing to work on improving engagement with the Indigenous community.
Her parent's went missing, one way or another. She was fostered out to an aboriginal family, for her own safety. She got heavily into drugs until her mind was addled. So, irresponsible parenting and irregular school attendance are not the fault of Balanda. Show shame in this case
She wasn't murdered!
