An 18-year-old who was shot point-blank in the chest by police has been charged with two counts of attacking police during a violent protest in Hong Kong.

Tensions continue to escalate in Hong Kong after the teenager was shot on October 1, with students taking to the streets since to rally against the force used by authorities.

The shooting has sparked resentment and anger from pro-democracy protestors across Hong Kong, as tensions continue to escalate in the Asian city. The protests began in June as a reaction to a now-abandoned bill that would have seen those suspected of crimes in Hong Kong face extradition to China. Image: AP

How Hong Kong protests spoiled China's national day and what could happen nowWATCH: In a fearsome escalation of violence, Hong Kong police shot a protester in the chest at close range, leaving the teenager bleeding and howling on the ground. 9News Hey 9news why don’t you tell the full story. The teenager was hitting the cop with an iron bar. Not a good look at all. If it was your life being threatened (Molotov cocktails & unrestrained mob violence was the order of the day) then the policeman's reaction was understandable although, in some aspects questionably justifiable. BTW - the Police didn't start the riots.
