The 99-year-old, wearing a suit and tie, appeared sprightly and was seen chatting with soldiers at the ceremony at Windsor Castle to transfer his role as colonel-in-chief of The Rifles.

The Duke of Edinburgh has made a rare public appearance to hand over the patronage of an army regiment to Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall.

The 99-year-old, wearing a suit and tie, appeared sprightly and was seen chatting with soldiers at the ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday afternoon to transfer his role as colonel-in-chief of The Rifles. Four buglers announced Prince Philip's arrival and then sounded the "No More Parades" call to mark his final ceremony as colonel-in-chief.
