Peter Dutton has accused Anthony Albanese of being held hostage by the “hard left” within Labor when it comes to the party’s stance on nuclear energy.

The Coalition has ramped up its advocacy for the power source in recent months, as it looks set to propose a fossil fuel-to-nuclear transition proposalBut during a lengthy podcast episode with 3AW’s Neil Mitchell, the Prime Minister said that nuclear does not economically “stack up in Australia”.

“No one’s going to finance it, it’s the most expensive form of new energy in Australia you could imagine,” Mr Albanese said.Mr Dutton, appearing on Mitchell’s program, called on Mr Albanese to have more of an open mind about the energy source.
