US President Donald Trump has held a lengthy and triumphant address a day after the Senate voted to acquit him on both articles of impeachment. The president held up a copy of the Washington Post with the headline "Trump acquitted" before taking aim at his political rivals in a speech at the White House including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressman Adam Schiff.

Mr Trump called a three-year-long "witch hunt" against him "a very unfair situation", adding: "It was evil, it was corrupt, it was dirty cops." He also thanked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Republicans for supporting him as he faced impeachment charges.
