WA's honey industry says the state's controlled burnings programme is ruining the native honey flow and their industry.

Prescribed burns should change, not stop

He said burns in coastal areas could take as long as five to eight years to produce honey again after a burn, but forests recovered faster after a cooler burn. "We have a very strong commitment to prescribed burning because we have an obligation to protect the lives and property of West Australians and prescribed burning as a way that helps us manage this environment.""The mono-flora product that they are producing are getting record prices, we see great opportunity for the bee industry, but we do have to put this in the context of our other obligations," she said.

ABCRural There should be more governmental and legal attention paid to the need to decrease housing developments in bushfire prone areas. These individual lifestyle choices are costing nature, general society and industries like precious manuka honey too much.

Dont suppose going from 90 registered beekeepers to 4000 had anything to do with it ?

They're also polluting Melbourne's air causing asthma and other diseases. 😠
