Premier Mark McGowan was "reluctantly" drawn into partially opening the state's border, and having made that decision he can't "just close it up again" after few new COVID-19 cases in New South Wales, says the Australian’s Dennis Shanahan.

"This is a national issue now," Mr Shanahan told Sky News. Mr Shanahan said in Australia there is a capacity to deal with the outbreaks and keep our borders open. Sky News host Chris Smith said Mr McGowan would be "wetting his pants" right after the new community cases were announced in New South Wales.
