Driven and ambitious, ScottMorrisonMP has never been short on self-confidence, and he's not taking a backward step in this election campaign, writes DeborahSnow

“I find his interest in my sunny disposition quite interesting,” Scott Morrison says, lounging back in the leather seat of his RAAF VIP jet with an air of self-satisfaction.

The pace is punishing. Each of the last four nights have been spent in a different capital city - Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Darwin. On the day of our interview, the prime ministerial jet is speeding towards the North Queensland garrison town of Townsville, where the seat of Herbert sits on a knife-edge.

A ferocious capacity to be task-focused is another Morrison hallmark. Witness his near monomaniacal dedication to "stopping the boats" when he was immigration minister. Or his falling out with Turnbull in early 2016, when Morrison as treasurer was going full steam ahead on a proposed GST increase offset by generous personal tax cuts, before Turnbull headed him off at the pass. Morrison’s former staff say they had clear signals from the then prime minister’s office to forge ahead.

Gazard is one of a small circle around Morrison who checks in with him regularly. “I send him messages, and he will call when he needs to, just running ideas past me, getting my take on things.” Others include Grebe, and long-time mentors Peter Costello [now chair of Nine, which owns“I used to talk to Peter a lot when I was treasurer,” Morrison says. “And occasionally to John. Now I talk more regularly to John and occasionally to Peter.

“Has the Newspoll us given hope? Yes,” says one. “Has it encouraged and mobilised the team? Yes. Does it galvanise donors and volunteers? Yes. Does it give us victory on the 18th? Not yet.”It's Easter Monday in the hotly contested seat of La Trobe in Victoria, a state where voters are expected to give the government a caning.

The decision to let the cameras in had some of Morrison’s advisers worried. He brushes off the suggestion it was a gamble, defaulting, as so often when challenged, to a kind of jut-jawed testiness. In the past, he’s declared the Bible is “not a policy handbook”, and deflected questions about reconciling his religious beliefs with some of his more heartless statements on refugees by saying Australians “aren’t looking for me to conduct myself as if I’m sitting on Oprah’s couch”.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Both leaders are ambitious but God help us if Shorten gets a chance to play out his ambitions.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow He's the most prime ministerial PM we've had in a long while, I hope he wins, I don't think he will, but I hope it's tight so that the ALP don't have carte blanche over the whole parliment

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow What about getting sacked from his previous jobs in marketing? Task driven my sainted aunt. What a bellend.

EmpoweringFem ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Absolute garbage. What a sad excuse for a newpaper has become.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Audacious is the word ie he's happy to bullshit on anything to promote himself - totally without integrity

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Old King Coal

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow No policy, no empathy - just a slick insincere loud mouth. Any means; any. No ends; just power - power more intoxicating than any drug or alcohol. Morrison a hollow drum leading us nowhere but down the proverbial gurgler. Even Menzies would be throwing up!

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Absolutely not a genius What a stupid headline

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow A lying bastard who knows that he's fronting a spineless bunch of media hacks has no reason to not be confident. Try asking him some tough relevant questions and demand the truth instead of accepting his bullshit. We'll see how confident he is then

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow The Age writing about Morrison

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow He's stumbled into the Prime Ministership and had to cheat his way into parliament. He won't be remembered fondly.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Driven and ambitious huh. For Australia and its people or himself? That is the real question.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Will never be remembered!!!

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Being a God Botherer might help, or not, hasn't ScoMo realised that God doesn't exist, except in the minds of the confused and delusional?

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Look at me, look at me, see I did that, look at me, not over there, nothing to see there, look at me, look at me.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Sheer unadulterated drivel.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow These people in government always seem to forget they govern FOR us not OVER us! Two very different things!

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow For balance, I expect will write a favourable article about Bill Shorten before the election!

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Self-confidence? Or Unbridled and unfettered hubris (if not narcissism). Yeah, it’s the latter. auspol2019 AusVotes2019

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow 'political genius', I can only laugh.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Are you serious? The man has the intellect of a mildly brain damaged chicken, and has the emotional intelligence of a rabid badger.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Only a genius to the easily fooled

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Go kick labor arse Scotty😂😂

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Don’t get arrogant mixed up with self confidence

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Oh dear! Really? 😱

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow He is what I would term a sleaze bag....entitled and ignorant ....he is fond of his own voice and reminds me of the very very of shark like salesman. He reeks of greed and partisanship andis so superficial.....so superficial.....grrr

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow 'Driven' and 'Ambitious' are not the same as 'wise' and 'capable'. Scott Morrison is a living example of the DunningKreuger Effect - he keeps failing upward, and so keeps believing in his (less than stellar) skillset. Auspol Ausvotes

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Both Morrison and Shorten are the Australian Voters, self appointed 'Messiahs' on a mission to save Australia! From what I don't know David Bowies famous song is resonating in my ears! 'Rocket Man' - ground control to Major Tom, commencing count engines on!'

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Morrison’s a dud and everyone knows it

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Morrison is just a bully.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow His self confidence is a symptom of the Dunning-Kruger effect. He truly is a useless individual.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow He's backed by success

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow I’m going to safety assume footnote

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow More drivel. Look at how he got into parliament and his failures before.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Geez you guys won’t let up your garbage partisan reporting.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow It would be great if ScottMorrisonMP would take responsibility for the second rate obsolete nbn, but that is not likely to happen is it? Political honesty not in this election from liberalaus? auspol ausbiz telecom broadband ausvotes19

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Haha! You clowns at the never disappoint. Morrison had his worse week ever. Is so far behind. Its not a case if labor will win. Its how far. 😂😂

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow More right wing religious cult leader

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow He strikes me as the sort of person who only uses one teaspoon of Milo when making chocolate milk. It doesn’t matter how much milk you use, one teaspoon is the wrong amount of Milo.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Total puff piece, which is about a week out of date. Left in the editor’s bottom drawer, until needed as a space-filler.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow Driven ambitious he might be, but his judgement is incredibly poor, looking at all the choices he’s made and had to amend or back down from.... People seem to have short term memory loss and only living day to day and hanging on his very latest “me too” promises...

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow And the puff-pieces continue... Let's talk about how he is an end-time religious extremist who is happy to torture refugees in off-shore internment camps. The guy is a shyster, a fraud, a spiv, a weird religious nutcase, waiting for The Rapture, who cares nothing for others.

ScottMorrisonMP DeborahSnow He’s been very strong, it’s been an interesting campaign.

Scott Morrison to target vegan activists in first week of parliamentExtreme vegan activists who invade farms will be targeted with the same urgency as returning foreign fighters under a re-elected coalition government. AusVotes19 AusPol 9News VOTINGindepend My dad would have been impressed it’s a very skilled job. Yes, farm invasion by citizens is not OK and is a violation of personal rights, liberties & property. However we should ensure these activists are not correct. Is there a need for tougher regulations or tougher govt auditing of those regulations to ensure humane animal treatment? And yet still no effective climate policy. Pathetic.
