Police are using helicopters and dogs to search for an 11-year-old boy missing in Strathewen, north-east of Melbourne.

In a statement, Victoria Police said it was believed Walter Adams was last seen at his family's Beale Avenue property about 10:00pm on Sunday. "It is believed he may have been attending to a calf on the property and failed to return home," the statement said. "Local police, Search and Rescue officers, Mounted Branch and the Dog Squad with SES and other volunteers are currently searching the property."

Aerial footage showed a police helicopter circling over dense bushland and several cars driving around a large, rural property at Strathewen.
