Victoria’s Police Minister is in hospital and will need to take three months off after a serious health scare linked to a chronic health condition.

Police and Emergency Services Minister Lisa Neville announced the leave period in a statement on Saturday, explaining she has been in hospital since last week as a result of Crohn’s disease.

“The clear advice from my doctors is if I don’t take this period of rest and recovery I will be faced with major bowel surgery and risk long term consequences to the quality and length of my life,” Ms Neville said. She said the latest episode of the chronic condition is the worst she had faced in the 32 years since her diagnosis.
