A stand-off between a crowd of CFMEU representatives and security guards at a Queensland project allegedly involved unionists jumping fences to get on to site.

Already a subscriber?Police have been forced to deal with a stand-off between a crowd of CFMEU representatives and security guards at a Queensland government project that allegedly involved unionists jumping fences to get on to the site.

The latest incident at Brisbane’s $300 million Centenary Bridge upgrade is understood to involve illegal entry claims against CFMEU Queensland organiser Dean Rielly, who does not have an entry permit and was previously accused of making a physical threat to a builder in a matter that the FWO controversially dropped at the eleventh hour.

“At approximately 7.03am, officers attended a Jindalee job site to assist in keeping the peace,” they said. The dispute came days after the CFMEU accused BMD of importing “cheap and dangerous Chinese steel” for the project, which it says goes against local procurement rules. One of the CFMEU representatives that allegedly entered the site illegally was Mr Rielly.

The FWO dropped that claim against Mr Rielly after a five-day trial and final submissions in what Federal Circuit Court judge Salvatore Vasta said wereWhile Mr Rielly denied making the threat the judge found his evidence was contradictory and in some areas “quite preposterous”.Mr Burke said on Monday that “I have complete confidence in the professionalism of the Fair Work Ombudsman”.

Georgiou Queensland manager Sean Donald said, “it is extremely disappointing that FWO didn’t carry through with allegations of such serious conduct, especially after the amount of time that was invested in the court case”.“Georgiou wasn’t contacted in any shape or form that the claims were dropped and neither were the witnesses.”
