PM stands firm on COVID-19 suppression strategy | Sky News Australia

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is standing firm on pursuing a COVID-19 suppression strategy as he says it is the best way to handle the pandemic without decimating the economy. Concerns have risen over the nation's approach to suppressing the coronavirus as health officials record a rise in community transmission cases in Victoria and NSW.

Mr Talley said “we can beat it, in part because we are lucky to be an island nation … [but] current policy settings are still not on elimination, a mistake.” The Prime Minister said shutting the whole country down, as advised by proponents of elimination strategies, was “not sustainable” and would negatively impact the economy. “You’d be doubling unemployment potentially, and even worse,” Mr Morrison said.
