Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Australia is 'many weeks away' from lifting coronavirus restrictions. 9News

"The way down is much slower than the way up. That means control measures must be lifted slowly and with control. It cannot happen all at once," he said.Mr Morrison said it was "unfathomable" to support live animal markets, where experts believe coronavirus originated in the city of Wuhan.

"It's unfathomable frankly. We need to protect the world against potential sources of outbreaks of these types of virus. It's happened too many times," Mr Morrison said. Australia's firm stance against wildlife markets could put the country on a collision course with the global health authority. "We need to protect the world against potential sources of outbreaks of these types of viruses," he added.Meanwhile, Mr Morrison said the forecast jump in Australia's unemployment rate to 1.4 million people would be "heartbreaking" for workers and companies hit by the virus."Well, it's a heartbreaking number. Unemployment at that rate, hundreds of thousands of people losing their jobs. It is just absolutely heartbreaking," Mr Morrison said.

He also said the Treasury did not expect the unemployment rate to hit 20 per cent as some economists predicted.

Hahahhaha wtf who voted for this bum lol really what a joke he truely is

9NEWS I thought we were going to let the health experts decide when restrictions could be eased not the politicians

Yep - let's drag the whole country into depression & financial ruin !

Morrison is trying his best to get the nation back on its feet,

AND that's exactly the way it should be, Let 'Everyone' loose prematurely, and bingo, until it's totally defeated, off it goes again.

Let's get back to work. We will soon have neighbours sleeping on the streets.

Try months! Be intelligent for once in your damn lives! Lower them too early and all those who are responsible for the decision will be held accountable for the deaths that come after.

Very strong leadership from Morrison.

I am really worried about Australian people's mental and economy if he is strict with us..

So Spain which was supposedly hit hard is going to lift some restrictions but Australia which is just playing the Fear card wants to keep destroying our Economy?!

PM eyes self sufficiency in economic fightback | Sky News AustraliaScott Morrison has his eye on making the Australian economy self-sufficient on the other side of the coronavirus crisis, UTS Professor Warren Hogan says. \n\nThe Prime Minister last week delivered a key speech to the parliament, in which he stressed the need to protect Australia’s economic sovereignty. \n\nProfessor Hogan told Sky News he thinks the government could look to “rebuild” some of the manufacturing sector post-crisis. \n\n“I think the Prime Minister is referring to effectively self-sufficiency,” he said. \n\n'I think this key concept is around making sure Australias, whether the borders are closed or not, whether international supply chains are disrupted, we can make sure we can get key things Australians need.\n\n'The main story is as we come out of this, how do we ensure the new economy is an economy that can make sure it looks after Australia's needs and I think that means rebuilding a big part of our manufacturing base.'\n I’ll believe it when I see it. Like every other western “democracy”, the temptation to artificially pump up the economy with mass immigration will be too strong. Australia should 'never have been allowed to get the way it was', thanks to LIMA, Unidroit, UN agreements! If the Constitution 1901, was Obeyed, Australia wouldn't have lost it's self sufficiency! Politicians that have subverted the Constitution, must be held accountable! Get rid of ChinaMade and have AustralianMade if you want Australia to be self sufficient and STOP letting China buying our LAND and business auspol
