Scott Morrison says defence personnel stand ready to assist firefighters battle the bushfires raging in New South Wales and Queensland.

But addressing reporters outside Kirribilli House in Sydney, the prime minister also issued a sombre warning.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison speaks to the media about the federal government's response to the bushfires across NSW and Queensland at Kirribilli House on Saturday. Two people have died and seven people are missing as fires in NSW destroyed at least 100 homes amid warnings of worse to come, while thousands of evacuated residents in Noosa, Queensland are waiting to hear whether their homes are safe to go back to.

The prime minister said the Australian Defence Force has presented options on call outs of reservists "as may be necessary", but stressed they are not trained firefighters. "Those people will not be left without shelter. Those people will not be left without cash," he said.Mr Morrison expected disaster recovery payments would be operational over the weekend and would mean $1,000 for individuals and $400 per child.

They would be alive . If the LNP had invested in adequate Fire Fighting Equipment Years ago. Instead of hoarding the country's wealth then wasting it. And why are the LNP not TAXING the LNG GAS BORONS ?The multi Billion p/a Gas Borons are exempted from paying tax for 7 years.

We still don’t believe in a climate crisis but this will make a really good photo op. What are the bets he appears in a fireman’s jacket or hi viz vest.

What an insincere hypocrite.

Time to listen to scientist & acknowledge climate change & tell fox news to get farked

Wouldn't you call it an emergency Scott Morrison.

This is his fault. There is no two ways about it. This could have been prevented had he read the report, agreed to meet with the fire services who asked him to and didn’t cut 13mil funding from NSW fire services. People are dead, this directly on him.

But how can you be sure having Karl Stefanovic as the new host of the Today Show will help?

Nothing up with the climate at all... more coal

Disgraceful that they are not properly prepared for this. Doubly disgraceful that the NSW Government has slashed funding for fire services.

Jesus, more thoughts and prayers from Morrison. ScottMorrisonMP

Just listened to his dribble, reckons the ADF does not fire fighting expertise? But, they have men, dozers, Graders, Water Tankers, field kitchens etc etc. Break out the Army, you fcukwit!

God's will?

That headline implies something sinister about senior MPs.
