The family of former Liberal leader Andrew Peacock has accepted an offer for a state funeral, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has confirmed. The "colt of Kooyong" served in federal parliament for nearly three decades before becoming Australia's ambassador to the United States.

"He is a great, was, a great Australian. He made a great contribution to this country," Mr Morrison said. The Prime Minister said he had spoken to Mr Peacock's wife Penne on Sunday morning and offered a state funeral. "There will be a private funeral for Andrew in the United States this week and that will be followed up by a state memorial service in Australia," he said.

He said the service would likely be held in "his beloved Victoria" at a time that would be arranged with the family.

Another state funeral? Really? Why? Oh he was a real liberal....

It's to be a memorial service not a funeral. His funeral is in US where he lived.

I thought it was a state memorial as his funeral is expected to held in Texas.

Really? Why? What did he do for the country? Genuine question. What did he do?

Didn’t he choose to live overseas?

TimSmithMP 'beloved state of Victoria'.... so loved he lived in Texas

WHY

TimSmithMP Sort of guessed this would trigger the tards

Complete waste of time & money. There are many other causes that could do with a helping hand ATM.

Another attempt at distraction really ...

Waste of money. Sorry for his friends and family but tired of taxpayers paying for each people

Oh goodie, another thing for the PM to fuck up!!! Peacock lived in the US, Texas no less. A memorial service in Canberra, or Melbourne would have been enough. He's really getting quite pathetically Abbotesque 🙄

Hasn’t even lived in Australia for many years

Why a state funeral?

Howard gave one to our greatest ever tax cheat, so why not the soufflé? You'd even give the war criminal Howard one tomorrow if he'd agree to go today

Taxpayers supporting the rich again...

Precedence for state funeral for Downer (federal opposition leader, ambassador), Mark Latham (federal opposition leader)...

Why. Rich enough to pay for their own funeral. Pay for your own crap
