Tens of thousands attended marches throughout Australia to rally against the sexual assault, discrimination and harassment of women.

In every capital city and towns across the country, people gathered to hear voices and stories and to call for action against the perpetrators of crimes against women. In Canberra, Brittany Higgins, the former Liberal staffer who alleges she was raped in the office of Defence Minister Linda Reynolds, spoke publicly for the first time since sharing her story. Australian of the Year Grace Tame, a survivor of sexual abuse, told a crowd in Hobart that evil thrived in silence and it was time for people to make noise.

At the same time, in Parliament, Prime Minister Scott Morrison declared the rallies a triumph for democracy because in other countries, such events were met with bullets, a comment many critics described as tone-deaf. Today on Please Explain, Nathanael Cooper joins political reporter Katina Curtis to look at the aftermath of the March 4 Justice and how the government is handling the #MeToo moment that has landed at its door.Becoming a subscriber also gets you exclusive behind-the-scenes content and invitations to special events.
