A secret plan to "electrify" the Gold Coast's public transport network has been revealed in a special briefing to the city's councillors.
They were told council engineers have been working on bringing electric buses to the Gold Coast for some time, linking its light and heavy rail stations.The buses would run on an east-west route between the two transport systems with some councillors believing they could be a "good test" for future light rail spur lines in similar directions.
"It has been put forward and we are investigating electric buses," Gold Coast Council transport boss Pauline Young exclusively told 9News.The buses would link heavy and light rail stations. Details of the electric bus plan were revealed unexpectedly in the final transport meeting for this term of Gold Coast Council with the city's director of transport saying the idea wasn't his - rather, it was brought to him by bus companies as an unsolicited approach.
