Tens of thousands of Australians call on Prime Minister Scott Morrison to condemn a Liberal senator's questioning of three Chinese Australians at a Senate committee hearing.

Senator Abetz denied that his questioning was based on race or ethnicity

Osmond Chiu, Wesa Chau and Yun Jiang say they were questioned about their loyalties by Senator Eric Abetz and asked toMore than 25,000 people have signed the petitions by GetUp! and Colour Code, criticising Senator Abetz's comments as "discriminatory" and "unacceptable" and urging the Coalition leadership to break its silence.

"The message it sends is that Chinese Australians are automatically under suspicion and need to prove themselves before they can participate in our democracy."In a response to the ABC, Senator Abetz said the question to Mr Chiu was not based on race or ethnicity and there was no "loyalty testing". "It was based on the presentation as representing thought leaders/academia and think tank contributors. They presented as China experts. However, former prime ministers Malcom Turnbull and Kevin Rudd have both condemned Senator Abetz's remarks.Tessa Pang, a spokesperson from GetUp!, said the silence from the Coalition leadership spoke volumes.

"This is a fiercely multicultural country and our diversity in backgrounds is something to be celebrated, not questioned."Jenny Leong says she's "disgusted" by the actions of Senator Abetz and the absence of condemnation of his behaviour by the PM.

Tell Mr Lotsa-Dumplings we don't do capital punishment in Australia. His bosses will have to settle for persecuting Uyghurs.

Does there need to be a petition to praise a senator for doing their job? How about one to tell ABC to stop the selective framing in coverage?

Nothing wrong in condemning a totalitarian state run by totalitarian party. I would say that plenty of Hong Kong Chinese, Uyghurs, Tibetans and other oppressed minorities in China would.

Uuuumm... Just in case ABC isn't aware? 25k is actually bugger all in today's society.

Seems Mr Abetz wants Senate committees to be our version of America's HUAC. This kind of nonsense was shameful 50 years ago, and it's become no less shameful since.

Abetz is a classic example of what the LNP represent: A bunch of out-of-touch, visionless, myopic, ignorant old toads with no idea. They’ve got to go.

The push back on Trumpist trash has begun, from Brazil to Brisbane. Canberra is next.

Anyone who doesn't condemn the CCP.. ARE NOT AUSTRALIAN.

Morrison doesn’t condemn corruption, criminality, bosses having affairs with junior staff..... he has not a skerrick of integrity

I call PM to investigate Osmond Chiu a self declared socialist and Wesa Chau a candidate for local election. They refused to condemn Chinese government for human rights violations in Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong while they happily enjoyed freedom in Australia.

I'm an Australian citizen and I condemn the vilification of the Chinese Communist Party coming from countries that have been overrun and infiltrated by every triad and his corrupt dogs. Bring it. auspol XiJinping

redrabbleroz Any day now. I have a good feeling about this 🤗

It doesn't look good that it's run by a Chinaman.

Chinese people don't belong in Australia, but I wouldn't 'unconditionally condemn the Chinese Communist Party dictatorship'. Biggest issue here is this weird demonization of the Chinese federal regime. That is not our business.

Australia has been weakened by mass migration from China of people who are loyal to the CCP. They call Aussies racists because we don't want a Chinese takeover. that's 25,000 Chinese signatures. Deport them

Western Australia in particular loves this type of stuff, bizarre. If the shark was a dark colour would they have missed? Just a thought.
