An inquest hears a Melbourne woman suffered an an allergic reaction to contrast dye used during a CT scan and died after her employer organised a health check she didn't need.

The mother of two young children suffered an anaphylactic reaction to a special contrast dye used in the procedure and later died from multiple organ failure at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Mr Sutherland told the inquest he'd wanted to get the "best health check we could find" for his executive team and at "whatever cost".

The CT scans were carried out by the Future Medical Imaging Group and reviewed by JobFit, a company offering medical assessments for business.

More importantly she didn’t even need it. No clinical utility whatsoever. What a waste of someone’s life. Time to disinvest such testing especially when it is not clinically relevant in such circumstances

A sad example of the medical industry trawling for patients, or shall I say, customers.

My life has recently been saved by a Ct which detected an early asymptomatic cancer. Ordered for unrelated problems. Debatable if absolutely necessary. Risks always thratening in medical practice.

There is a pretty extensive checklist that needs to be completed before administering contrast. You also require an anaphylaxis kit to be present. Were these standard practices followed but overlooked in the article?
