A pet dog has died after multiple shots were fired from a high-powered rifle into a Gold Coast unit complex. Police on Monday said it was fortunate a woman had also not been killed in the shooting which they described as a targeted attack. A man allegedly fired seven shots through the rear sliding glass door of the Mudgeeraba apartment just before 5am on Sunday. The small, white dog was in the lounge room and was shot in the shoulder, police said.
The pet was taken to an emergency vet for treatment but was later euthanised due to its injuries. “It’s quite sad obviously for the owner,” Acting Superintendent Mark Mooney said. Police believe there was possibly a man in the unit at the time of the shooting but are yet to speak to him. “We believe it was targeted and there is no threat to the community,” Acting Supt Mooney said.
