Michael O’Brien has told colleagues he won’t run for the Liberal leadership, paving the way for John Pesutto to take the reins should he win in Hawthorn.

Jess Wilson, the Liberal candidate for Kew and former staffer to Josh Frydenberg.“As a party of government, the Liberal Party cannot afford to be anything less than a movement which draws its support from right across Victoria,” Mr Pesutto told“We do not need to choose between the inner suburban areas and the outer suburbs or regional Victoria. If successful, I want to ensure that we present a positive agenda that resonates strongly throughout the broader community.

One senior Liberal MP, speaking anonymously, described Mr Pesutto as intelligent, principled, a strong campaigner, and a “very good choice” for the next Liberal leader following Matthew Guy’s resignation on Sunday. “The people responsible for this must be accountable for it, and frankly they should be out of parliament ... Matthew Guy and David Davis should leave. Having Jess Wilson in the party room is terrific, but frankly anyone with a pulse is now an asset to the Liberal Party.”The senior MP said the Liberal Party’s focus on Daniel Andrews was misguided, and that the party had to refocus on direct community engagement.

Liberal party ‘believed’ in ‘freedom’ before 2020Outgoing Victorian Liberal Tim Smith says “to this day don’t know why at the point at the end of 2020 we didn’t actually just go back to what we actually believe in which is freedom”. “If we had seized the opportunity back then to make the case for freedom, we would’ve actually developed a narrative and indeed an alternative vision for Victoria,” Mr smith said. Pls tell him don’t drink & drive! What the fk does this even mean? Vic or federal Liberals didn't believe in freedom, they were there the whole way along, silent and supporting. It's too late to yell at the final minute, people needed you at the same time as NationFirstAust was speaking up in federal parliament.
