Letters to the editor: People will die because of our naive response to virus

'', March 5). It seems to be purely reactive with no restrictions on people's freedoms, an approach sure to fail. Having an efficient response on a case by case basis can slow the spread. Trying to prevent panic can only delay the day when panic takes hold – and I’m not talking about toilet paper.

In China, they have gained control over the spread of the virus by massively restricting people’s freedoms. We don’t want to do that, but what we are doing seems naive. People will die because of our approach. If nothing changes, the number of cases will spiral out of control, and overcome the capacity of our health systems. It will then be the rest of the world putting travel bans on us.The government could provide mobile suburban testing units manned by suitably protected staff.

The trouble is that politicians often fight against the best economic advice, which is the case with the current federal government’s ''surplus-at-all-costs'' mentality. They won the election by convincing the public that budget deficits were tantamount to evil. This painted them into a political corner, escape from which, will leave their grubby footprints exposed for years to come. So please don’t blame economics.

Perhaps the focus should be on placing it in that other well known regional seat, North Sydney? A North Sydney reactor is ideally placed as it's close to its customers, has ready access for employees, comprehensive public transport and has access to water for cooling the reactor.Note to Barilaro: you’re flogging a dead horse here. Latham’s trying to sell you a pup.

Where is this available toilet paper so I can buy it.

Definitely some advantages to getting Coronavirus now. If you are under 50 your morality rate is less than 0.4%, good odds to then reap the benefits of cheap flights hotels and no lines, and always a spot at the restaurant.

I read this. What a ridiculous alarmist letter.

open in incognito mode, to bypass paywall.

The irony is that the imbicile Australians stockpiling groceries in doomsday proportions are the very people least likely to follow quarantine rules should they actually get sick. ToiletPaperEmergency ToiletPaperApocalypse toiletpaper coronavirus

Well what did you expect? Australia is just another Chinese province now. You brought it all upon yourselves.

Fuckwits abound

Only liberals would say the government is handling the virus properly. When it broke out in China the ban was if you were coming from China. How dumb, people will get around the ban by flying elsewhere then to Australia. Now Italy not on travel ban. Self isolate. That’s working ?

Well if the media stopped sensationalizing everyone would settle down. Click bait journalism at its best. No wonder people panic !!

SMH so what if people buy toilet paper or or masks? is it a crime or it is freedom to do something the SMH and the ABC think is wrong? ....what if? ...you wrong? ...and this gets bad? ...will you call yourselves 'naive'?How is buying toilet paper something that can kill anyone?

Stop putting coronavirus related articles behind a paywall!

Your virus coverage is protected by a paywall. Many media organisations have removed paywalls so that virus info can be shared. Pls consider.

Was at Aldi this morning. A middle-aged chinese woman gobbled up 8 to 10 hand towels in a fit of hypertension. I complained to one of the floor guys. He got her to put the towels back and just take 4 hand towels (limit imposed). Felt proud for a moment but definitely not happy.

How anyone could say ScottMorrisonMP reaction to coronavirusaustralia coronavirus 'purely reactive' is beyond me. We lead world. Left wing drivel from (or theage ) letter to the editor. Thank God we have LiberalAus PM who prioritises our health. australian auspol

The LNP Continued Virus Rhetoric is Causing Panic. They Stuffed up the bushfire Disaster for Not doing enough and Now Creating Hysteria for Saying far too much. Usless!

I’m building a toilet paper bunker. Cool ppl only.

Hit the paywall so this is one piece of click bait I’m going to miss.

people were going to die from the virus anyway Government has done a good job typical left wing approach Blame Government for anything possible .......... auspol
