The University of Notre Dame’s Dr Martin Drum says he’d “rather people hold their horses” in debating whether bushfire-affected areas had been properly backburned.

“At the moment it’s a tragedy, it’s awful for the people involved, and the communities involved,” Dr Drum said.

He said backburning is a “complex issue” subject to “a lot of difficulties”. “Difficulities with the smoke, the number of days in the year you can do it,” he said.

RichardDiNatale AdamBandt Greens here’s how it works, bushfires only work in late autumn, controlled. You, yes you have created catastrophic bushfires in the summer period, you alone have stopped the prescribed burning Australia wide. Stop looking for political gain and milage

Greens love seing people being burnt. It warms their cold reptilian hearts. They just want to see it all up in smoke, and for some reason they think that once everyone is gone they will somehow rule over the ashes Where in reality they can't even organise a sizzle in a butchery

So ypu and ypur cronies from the greens can spread vile emergency messages. I don't think so

As someone who has fought many fires....There is no debate. These areas NEED TO BE BACKBURNED. To continue not to do so, is a crime against humanity

I thought we has all realised that 'raking the forests' was a joke? we need CLIMATE MANAGEMENT!
