Pell’s lawyers are pushing for a retrial - or for the cardinal’s child sex convictions to be set aside.

The court heard there will be two victim impact statements tendered as Pell sat emotionless in the dock flanked by three uniformed officers. Mr Richter said the appeal application was made on three grounds, firstly that the verdict of the jury was unreasonable and contrary to evidence. Pell, who has been on bail throughout the proceedings, may be taken into custody when he returns to the County Court of Victoria on Wednesday.

The case for and against: What the jury was told in George Pell's trialGeorge Pell's first trial ended when a jury could not reach a verdict. His second trial found him guilty. Here are the key points the juries had to consider. I am hearing the first trial was a hung jury 10-2 in his favour. No new evidence for the second trial which resulted in a 12-0 verdict against him. That’s perplexing. Can you check this out. Is Gerard Henderson going to join Andrew Bolt and Miranda divine in defending the pedophile? Not much of a case....

The case for and against: What the jury was told in George Pell's trialGeorge Pell's first trial ended when a jury could not reach a verdict. His second trial found him guilty. Here are the key points the juries had to consider. If he is found innocent, the Age is over. Bankruptcy is the least expected for what you did. Reporting it cryptic, going against a court suppression order. Tell that to the innocent children he forced anal penetration on. In fact a lot of his victims have committed suicide. I am starting to have doubt after listening to Frank Brennan and others. Pell was hated by many who would like to get rid of him. Talk about the Inquisition and the Borgias!!!! And don't forget the Medicis.

Inside George Pell's trial: The victim's words, the lawyers' argumentsAs the trial unfolded, Pell sat in the dock usually writing on a legal pad, dressed in a black jacket and clerical collar. Sometimes he wore a jumper bearing the logo of the MCG. The Catholic church does not follow Scripture - a Pastor should be married. Celibacy is not natural and causes much trouble - the arrogant Roman Church won't listen. It's more a business than a church. However, on the basis of the evidence - the jury made the wrong decision.

Guilty: George Pell's sexual abuse of choirboys revealedThe Catholic Church is embroiled in one of its biggest scandals to date after Australia's most senior Catholic cleric, Cardinal George Pell, is convicted of sexually abusing two choirboys in the 1990s. This makes me ill. Big fucking deal, in the time it takes to prosecute this thing, another 100 cases would have happened in between, like all forms of crime this is simply a speed bump. ABCthedrum Let's think about the poor soul who didn't survive to see this judgement.

'We trusted someone we should have feared'A man who as a choirboy was sexually abused by Cardinal George Pell has spoken after his guilty verdict was revealed to the world. In 1999, two of your journalists claimed to have seen evidence of the ritual abuse of children. They interviewed six mothers whose children had disclosed experiences of organised abuse in New South Wales. The children's disclosures were corroborating, I wonder what you will say if Pells conviction on your allegation is over-turned.
