A man has died after being hit by a car in Petersham while eastbound lanes were closed on the Hume Highway near Yagoona after a critical pedestrian crash.

A man, aged in his 50s, has died after being hit by a car on a major road in Sydney’s inner west.

Livingstone Road was closed in both directions due to the police operation before reopening about 1.30am on Monday. Route 412 buses were also diverted from the scene. Police were called to the scene about 4am and found a 57-year-old man with critical head injuries. He was treated by paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital.A truck driver on Sydney’s northern beaches has also been charged with negligent driving occasioning death after colliding with a motorcyclist on Barrenjoey Road, near Surf Road, at Palm Beach just before 9am on Sunday.The 46-year-old man was thrown from his motorcycle and died at the scene, police said.
