Recent comments by former prime minister Paul Keating do “nothing” to disarm concerns. Labor does not take the China threat seriously, says Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton.

Mr Houghton said “important questions” were raised in the Sydney Morning Herald’s defence investigation, ‘Red Alert: War Risk exposed’, about “how poorly equipped our military is to deal with conflict”. However, he said The Australian’s Sophie Elsworth reported former Prime Minister Paul Keating was “terribly upset” at the newspaper, saying in a statement:

“Today’s Sydney Morning Herald and Age front page stories on Australia’s supposed war risk with China represents the most egregious and provocative news presentation of any newspaper I have witnessed in over fifty years of active public life.”“Labor has an image issue with the perception it does not take the China threat seriously – these comments by Keating will do nothing to disarm those concerns.

Labor is China that's a fact. Some people voted for this and still believe Albo and Penny wrong are for Australia when they are only for China.

What else can we do, years of the LNP doing nothing to protect Australia have left us vulnerable.

Warmongers on tap at your place?

They're socialists. Not that they'd want to live under CCP rule but one way to get more revenue is by acceding to the demands of the bully in exchange for lifting bans. Stuff the people and stability in Southeast Asia.

I guess the liberal party doesn't take the China Threat seriously either if they still champion mass migration from china and an over reliance on chinese uni students

Chinese threat? Both Australians and the government should remember the basic fact that China did not bomb Darwin or eat Australian prisoners of war as rations.

A former PM from a quarter century agai? Typical pathetic conservative position.

Ok Keating, the Pro-China ex has-been PM of the Australia in Asia rhetoric, well that was the China lobby using him as mouthpiece.

Is this the 21st century reds under the bed equivalent? When did it make sense for the Murdoch rags to determine our international diplomacy and defence strategy. Why don't they report the news instead of trying to make it. makes stuff up.

I didn’t know Paul Cheating was still relevant

Media Watch’s Paul Barry running ‘blatantly false’ government ‘talking points’ on superThis week ABC’s Media Watch host Paul Barry was “most indignant” at the media’s criticism of the Albanese government for “breaking its election promise” on super, says Sky News Digital Editor Jack Houghton. Mr Barry said somehow the changes became “an attack on all Australians”, even though they will initially affect “only 80,000 taxpayers who have more than $3 million in their super funds”. “But what Barry failed to mention is that those indexation will change those numbers completely. As the AFR reported, the number of people affected could climb into the hundreds of thousands eventually due to inflation,” Mr Houghton said. “How's that for Barry's so-called 'modest' proposal?' Mr Barry further said, “The superannuation tax changes proposed by Labor won’t take effect until 2025, and they’ll only go ahead if voters re-elect this government, but that didn’t stop TV and the tabloids branding it a broken promise and a breach of trust”. “Labor will legislate changes this year. That makes it a very clear broken promise, but that doesn't stop Barry from running government talking points which are blatantly false,” Mr Houghton said. Jack shit say's what? ‘Energy prices are going through the roof’: Paul MurraySky News host Paul Murray says energy prices are “going through the roof” following Labor’s planned closing of multiple coal mines. “Now put simply they can tell us a million times over that it’s all because of Vladimir Putin,” Mr Murray said. “You and I know that the CSIRO told us in 2017 – way before there was an invasion of Ukraine that the transition of one grid would cost $124 trillion.” Yeah but he’s wrong. Global Fossil Fuel prices are pushing up generation costs, not political parties. Stupid RW trash media Seriously? The Coalition blocked a report showing massive increases in power prices just before the election but it is now all Labors fault. Articles like this need a Fiction warning like Fox News. Paul murrAy is a liar and a fool. Short term pain for longterm gain. There is a small period of crossover rises in costs. The longterm gain is so worth it though. Like all conservatives Murray can’t see past his own turned up nose.
