An educational advocacy group’s denunciation of Anzac Day over Australia’s historical role in the oppression of Palestinian people has been condemned as an attempt to disintegrate national identity.

Shadow home affairs minister James Paterson has taken a swipe at"insidious" attempts to politicise Anzac Day by a group of pro- Palestine activist teachers.

“As teachers, we should strive to resist this, and we should introduce our students to the real history of the ANZACs – in Palestine and elsewhere.” “Anzac Day is one of those things that has almost universal support, almost universal belief in whether you're on the left of politics or the right, whether you came here recently or a long time ago. Australians rally around this.

Senator Paterson said criticising the day because of a select few past events in war posed the risk of stirring up deep anti-patriotic sentiment and raising new generations with lost faith in the country.
