The New Year’s Eve spectacular will burn through eight tonnes of fireworks and cost $5.8 million, with more than a million people expected around the harbour in a return to pre-pandemic celebrations.

Sydney is set to have its first normal New Year’s Eve since the pandemic with more than a million people expected to watch the fireworks display from parks, balconies and parties around the harbour on Saturday night.

For the first time in 12 years, fireworks will also be launched from four building rooftops to frame the spectacular show of more than 100,000 individual pyrotechnic effects. The Calling Country fireworks at 9pm have the theme of sky, land and sea and the pyrotechnic display will represent clear blue skies, twinkling stars, sunburnt coloured flowers and ocean creatures.The New Year’s countdown will feature swirling fireworks before the Harbour Bridge is lit up with bursting fireworks.

“We’re looking forward to this year because especially in 2020 there were no crowds, which was strange in itself, last year there were limited crowds.”
