The Property Council warns the return of workers after COVID-19 lockdowns continues to be a “matter of life and death” for central Melbourne, predicting that if workers continue to return at current rates the city will lose $2.6b this year. | jtbgraham

Victoria’s property industry is pushing for a revival of the landmark Postcode 3000 campaign of the 1990s, credited with transforming Melbourne’s CBD from a “ghost town” into night-time destination, to get the city bustling again.

“We have never seen visitation to the CBD fall off a cliff like we have in the pandemic. There are structural shifts going on but we can’t afford as an economy to lose the value of the CBD,” Ms Hunter said. The post-pandemic iteration would include Homes Victoria buying existing city apartments to meet a shortfall in social housing.

City of Melbourne city architect Rob Adams, who was behind Postcode 3000 in the 1990s, said the initiative converted under-utilised commercial offices into residential spaces.

jtbgraham When will the staffing levels in government use office buildings pass 50%?

jtbgraham Bloodsuckers who don’t give a damn about public health, just their bottom line.

jtbgraham Need to open the Boardwalk then please.

jtbgraham It’s already death to the events and conference industry

jtbgraham Heres an idea. Might be time to start planning for this to be the norm! People don't want to return to the city and this is what should of happened for years (maybe Decades!) Having everyone have to come to one place (i.e. CBD) was always an unnecessary idea and more so now!

Tasmanian election: Peter Gutwein claims victory for Liberals, but unclear if party will govern in majorityLabor leader Rebecca White said the Tasmanian election results reflect the trend of Australian voters favouring incumbent governments for their handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. Well while still sitting at a minority Govt until Clark is finished counting - I do hope they continue to keep Covid-19 out because, if we’ve learnt anything this election, the health system in Tasmania won’t cope with an outbreak. I’d hate to be growing old in Tasmania 😢
