Parents of the teenage boy who allegedly stabbed clergymen at Christ The Good Shepherd Church in Sydney on Monday have said their son has not been radicalised.

Parents of 16-year-old boy who allegedly stabbed clergymen on Monday say their son is not radicalised after police declare incident a terror attack

Translators who listened to audio of the church attack told Sky News Australia the words allegedly spoken were to the effect of: “If he didn't swear at my Prophet I wouldn't be here... If he didn't get involved in the of my religion, I wouldn't have come here.” Dr Rifi said the boy’s parents do not believe he has been radicalised because “not long ago he bought himself a drum and he was playing the drum, listening to the music and swaying his body according to the music – for a radicalised person, this is a no-no”. “He's got an anger management issue. He gets angry very easily. And there was a diagnosis that's actually put to them, but not confirmed by a practitioner of knowledge in this field,” the spokesperson said.

Mr Rifi added that the overwhelming burden on authorities after the Bondi Junction stabbing spree on Saturday may have forced them to declare the alleged church stabbing a terror attack. While the alleged knife attack against Bishop Mar Mari has been labelled a"terrorist act", the Bondi Junction stabbing is understood to have been due to schizophrenia and mental health issues.
