Preliminary results of a survey by researchers from Edith Cowan University reveal people are showing high levels of concern for others – and not just their friends and family | Emma_J_Young

presented data about attitudes and said people were concerned people might be more selfish, but “our data isn’t showing that”.

Open-ended comments respondents provided, when invited at the end of the 10-minute survey, illustrated such concerns:"I have family - sisters and their families in the UK, a son in Europe and nephews and nieces in Europe and the US. One nephew in the UK died from COVID-19. I worry about the rest overseas. My son and grandchildren in Port Hedland. I worry about.

As the researchers thought people might be more focused on their families, they asked a separate question about the welfare of other people in general.

Why can’t I read the main headline story? Those big red dots are absurd - the current active cases are just over the population of Houston, the deaths the population of Norfolk, Virginia, in other words so small it's still countable.
