Social isolation and the disrupted economy are the two biggest threats to suicide prevention over the next 12 months, says a report released to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.

Source:Record numbers of people are coming forward to seek help from suicide prevention services, with women, Indigenous Australians and members of the LGBTQI+ community among those in greatest need of support.

Straining an already stretched sector, 84 per cent of suicide prevention professionals have experienced an increase in demand in the past 12 months.Lifeline is taking the highest daily number of calls in the organisation's history as repeated lockdowns and ongoing COVID-19 disruption push people to the brink.calls for government funding to keep pace with rising levels of distress and for decision-makers to think beyond their own areas of responsibility.

More people commit or attempt suicide over things not related to covid at all. The Australian psych system has been messed up since they closed psych hospitals in early 90’s. It is badly funded & run. Ring the help line &you get 10 mins and told to ring for appt that takes months

So being alone and being poor. Got it... 🙄
