Chinese Premier Li Qiang will visit Adelaide Zoo on Sunday in a promising sign for the continued presence of giant pandas in Australia.

Chinese pandas are set to remain in Australia as a powerful symbol of improved relations between the two nations as Chinese Premier Li Qiang prepares to arrive in Australia this weekend for the first such visit in seven years.

Such a deal would be a coup for Australia given the only remaining giant pandas left the United Kingdom last year andas relations between the superpowers soured. A Zoos South Australia spokeswoman said last year: “We do not know if Wang Wang and Fu Ni will remain at Adelaide Zoo or return to China.
