As Australians fill their trolleys with Christmas goodies, a timber pallet shortage is putting pressure on the supply chain for consumer goods, prompting calls from industry for government action.

abc.net.au/news/timber-pallet-shortage-disrupt-supply-christmas-goods/101775584The Australian consumer goods supply chain is again experiencing a shortage of timber pallets, with industry experts saying the problem will only get worse.

Mr Paine said the seemingly pedestrian timber pallet was critical to logistical infrastructure of the modern economy. "All of this has to be moved around the country and if you don't have those pallets, then the ability to move those goods and produce them is a lot harder."Mount Gambier based sawmill N.F. McDonnell & Sons supplies timber to pallet manufacturers.

"It's really about future proofing and thinking about the needs of moving consumer goods in the future."Mr Paine said the long life cycle of forestry meant that government needed to forward plan, implementing solutions for the future now.

Toilet rolls, frozen chips and now pallets. What next

That is sad!

Killing the very thing that keeps us alive isn’t very smart , not to mention there is plenty of plantation wood, or what about recycling plastics into pallets Stop being a PR to the heavily subsidised timber killing industry ABC

Pallets are re-usable many times over. I find this hard to believe!

Asher_Wolf 'Could'? But will they?

Yeah but nah !!! - just sitting unused. at same time - Chep/Los charging clients 'daily hire rate per pallet' - even if sitting yard. Can't disclose emp - used to have pallet controller. Have C/L stacked up - but C/L getting their daily $ charge rate pallets sitting there.

I've got a few here they can use if it helps

There’s probably about 6 million sitting idle around the country and people don’t know how to return them.

Sue0606 This is bullshit. How about they recycle the pallets instead of using g them once. How about they make the pallets out of recycled plastic? How about you lot at the abc stop running nine rubbish talking points on behalf of the timber industry.

Been warning that for 3 to 6 months already.

Quick, Better cap the price of pallets!

ABC censoring all none aligned views on Facebook. Bunch of commie grubs.

If there's one thing that could be made of recycled plastic it's this. Plastic pallets are available, use them. Wood pallets shouldn't be the cheaper option, using trees like this is a waste.

nickcarver pehaps you know someone you can put them in contact with? 😂

I steal hundreds every week and just light them on fire

Asher_Wolf The solution is obvious, that guy in the forklift is hoarding them all, it would seem

Check the Port of Brisbane. It’s lousy with pallets. We don’t need to chop down more trees; we need to get the pallets where they’re needed.

Bit late with this story. It’s been a problem for nearly 3 years!

Asher_Wolf Time to deconstruct those coffee tables Australia!!!!!

Australians are feeling the ‘bite’ of interest rate rises as Christmas nearsThe Salvation Army's Major Brendan Nottle says 61 per cent of Australians are feeling the “bite” of the interest rate rises at it is “hitting hard” for people around Christmas. “It’s not just about putting on the spread on Christmas day, it’s not just about providing presents for the kids, it’s about everyday living,” Mr Nottle told Sky News host Chris Kenny. “You got the additional costs that come along unexpectedly like pharmacy costs. “All of those things are really putting a squeeze on people, and I think there’s an economic grey cloud that’s hanging over so many people at the moment and they’re really feeling the bite this Christmas.” Maybe should have bought a smaller house and skipped the 4WD European countries are sadly housing illegal economic migrants in hotels, and those natives are dying on the streets. And they remember what happened when they donated to charities during the fires which saw most the money tucked away and not used to help the people they donated to help

‘Skirting the main issue’: Govt halves subsidised psychology sessions for AustraliansChild Psychologist Clare Rowe says the government halving subsidised psychology sessions is “skirting the main issue”. Australians accessing subsidised psychology sessions will have their visits halved in a matter of weeks as the government moves to scrap a scheme introduced at the height of the pandemic. “One of the main issues is that we are very, very short of psychologists in this country given the rise in mental health diagnosis, and the psychologists we have are leaving in droves,” Ms Rowe told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “They’re burnt out, and they don’t want to do it anymore.” Just like this post does! Many psychologists have moved onto the cash cow that is the ndis and the rebates barely cover any of the cost so people in rural areas or poor people can't afford any psychological interventions anyway. But the left said the coalition would cut Medicare 😂

Bali bombmaker sends message to AustraliansOne of the main Bali bombmakers who was freed last week after serving about half of his 20-year sentence has apologised to victims and their families for his role in the 2002 terror attack. They put an Australian in front of a firing squad for drug trafficking (not condoning his action), but a bomb maker involved in the death of over 200 people gets 20 years and paroled after 10!!! 😡 And our gutless Govts, be they LiberalAus or AustralianLabor, treat the corrupt, arrogant Indonesian Govt. with kid gloves.
