Annastacia Palaszczuk increased her majority largely through a tough COVID borders policy, in what was a reflection of the 2001 and 2013 federal election victories where a "tough on borders" mentality was a winner, says Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell. Premier Palaszczuk claimed a Labor victory, promising supporters across Queensland a “strong recovery plan” which will get the state back to work in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.

“It was a case of ‘we will decide who comes to our state and the circumstances in which they come’ as Palaszczuk, who would have lost her majority if she lost just two seats, appears to have won three or four to bolster her majority,” Mr Clennell said. “An expectation around the place that David Crisafulli will now challenge Deb Frecklington for the LNP leadership. “You can see the Labor vote came directly off the One Nation vote with the LNP still narrowly lifting its vote share.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Queenslanders will rue today. Higher unemployment than Vic! Union factions distributing the spoils, death comes for full-term &post-birth)babies for Any reason and vulnerable old (younger next)blind eye to corruption. The old sacrificing the young.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell How many excuses is NewsCorpse going to flog to justify the LNP losing 🤣🤣

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Didn't know we have so many sheep in Aus. Thought that was in NZ

AnnastaciaMP aclennell aclennell:”...expectation that DavidCrisafulli will challenge DebFrecklington for LNP leadership” How about we mention the likes of Amanda stoker_aj who’d win *hands down* in the popularity stakes! or,if so hell-bent on advocating for a guy: mattjcan (t/ferred to major party)

AnnastaciaMP aclennell China will want its rewards.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell I AM A BIG SUPPORTER OF KEEPING THE QUEENSLAND’S BOARDERS CLOSED Keep NSW AND VICTORIANS OUT OF CLEAN QUEENSLAND

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Tough on borders. Not Australian.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell We have learnt to live with virus. States have numbers under control. Time to scrap Jobkeeper.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Nice spin. But then who cares, the only thing that counts is that AnnastaciaMP won, lib/nats lost, Pauline and Clive largely ignored. You can spin all you want, it doesn't change the result one bit!

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Unbelievable the number of adults who think like children and believe government can protect them against the boogy man aka a virus with a 99.9x% survival rate. Then again, this is Qld.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell What a pile of crap.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell True

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Great. More years of shit.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Yes the coalition and their Murdoch Media cheer squad really hate it when someone else besides them closes borders to save lives, or is it because it is not specifically for 'brown people'?

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Or a lot of us are sick of liberal bullshit.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Queenslanders that voted ALP are absolute nutters like their premier. The rest of the country should stop distributing gst to the state. If they don’t won’t to be part of Australia we can organise that. Same goes for WA

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Attention REST of Australia. Forget which political side you stand on & realise what has just occurred in Queensland. The outcome is a vote for a Welfare society. (Socialism) There is no other way to interpret the result because QLD has the highest unemployment in the country.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Qld voters, see something in Anna the rest of us don't. A good win for labor in a fair election. We must respect the result, as the will of the majority.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell ALL THIS PROVES Is the idiotbox and SMART PHONE has done its job well

Kieran_Gilbert AnnastaciaMP aclennell Ahhh I remember the 2001 and 2013 Covid pandemics well

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Superficial take. Made for TV grabs.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell The Courier-Mail (Murdoch) endorsed LNP, and predicted a LNP victory. Where’s that story? How did Murdoch media get it so wrong?

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Who would have thought’tough borders’ would win you an election? 🤔😏

AnnastaciaMP aclennell She couldn’t have had a Covid election without the Federal Gov. pouring in money to help out. Not once has it been mentioned.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell It was not a simple one issue election. Unlike Sky News, voters can consider multiple issues. Voting for personalities is stupid - they come and go! Voting for policies is what matters.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell God forgive those who voted for the Devil for they do not know want they have done. To sell your soul is the end of Qld.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell I hope the pineapples come up well this year cos without tourism there ain’t much else coming out of QLD

AnnastaciaMP aclennell When the covid dust settles...massive debt, no jobs, high unemployment. Thankfully it’s a nice place to holiday!

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Yes the Premiers who have protected their states thru tough border measures have done the right thing by their states people want to feel safe in their own areas

AnnastaciaMP aclennell

AnnastaciaMP aclennell I think the Qld electorate has shown they are more than capable of separating State from Federal issues and making their own decisions regardless of noise in the press

AnnastaciaMP aclennell

AnnastaciaMP aclennell She's still there due to very very POOR OPPOSITION.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Disaster for the Gold Coast. No politician has ever done more damage to it.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Yep, it was the COVID and not that Palaszczuk has largely done a good job, playing the pandemic for political points was not only morally wrong but politically stupid and people rejected that goose Frecklington & the far right-wing LNP/One Nation parties.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Big swing and picked up seats. Turns out voters didn't like being treated like children by the feds. Morrison will be extremely worried now.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell QLD.... like VIC... are going to have some regrets soon Like, no tourists = no money coming in and your economy will crash Perhaps they expect feds will bail them out?

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Rubbish. You don’t know what you are talking about.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell CORONA ....CORONA ....CORONA ...IS THE WINNER !

Kieran_Gilbert AnnastaciaMP aclennell Of course, it can’t be possible that the Liberal agenda has been rejected in Qld after Morrison campaigned on our freaking dime eh.

AnnastaciaMP aclennell She got in because of her stand on borders

AnnastaciaMP aclennell

AnnastaciaMP aclennell Don't cry sweety
