Annastacia Palaszczuk committed $15 million of taxpayer funds to secure the AFL Grand final from Melbourne despite economists predicting it would only net $18 million for the Queensland economy.

EXCLUSIVE: Sky News business reporter Ed Boyd has revealed that Premier Palaszczuk made the multi-million-dollar commitment to help secure the deal which she then promoted as an economic boon for Queenslanders. She has refused to reveal how much taxpayers would be slugged to host the game but was happy to spruik the slim economic benefits of the deal.

“At the news conference announcing The Gabba as the venue Annastacia Palaszczuk refused to reveal how much her government was spending or release the economic modelling for the decision,” Mr Boyd said. “Sky News has been told by sources the premier committed $15 million of taxpayers’ money, economists have confirmed the government’s estimate, the event will return only $18 million.”

More pathological behaviour of unrepentant magnitude. Queenslanders like rugby league rugby union Soccer and having boarders closed which afl persons are going to see a Vic final makes no sense along with 40% stadium capacity scamdemic rules it's BS.

Yes. But it is a future investment.

Palaszczuk can do right on Sky.20% profit and bringing rights and its not enough. Grow up.

It wasn't to net the grand final. It was to help secure a re-election win. Transparent as glass

Maybe she consulted the economical expert Dr Young

Whats wrong with a $3million windfall for QLD taxpayers? 🤷‍♂️

Shes fucked!

Well she’s a politician, not a mathematician, or a business person for that matter and doesn’t understand what a revenue or profit is. 31st October can’t come fast enough as far as I’m concerned and then we can boot this corrupt, rotten state government to the curb Qldpol

Better taxpayer value than the ScottMorrisonMP SPORT’s RORTS

And there will be no social distancing at the event with the AFL selling 30,000 tickets or 72% of capacity. So all the premier rhetoric is out the door for this event

Better assured return at $6 on every $5 invested than many horse races, plus longer term plug for AFL as a national sport ...where did the word ‘despite’ come from?

Mmmm 🤔 wasn’t it the CMO who said that the AFL was bringing much money to Qld and apps on that basis. Yep the CMO is not an economist thats for sure

$3 mill profit sounds fine to me tbh.

Sydney would have cost it's residents $0

Does that include all the money that tourism will make from the players and their families holidaying in the state afterwards

So they bought the AFL grand final.

Premier, big noting herself as usual

$15 million to buy an election, sounds like a bargain.

You sound upset she hasn't funnelled it off to gas executive mates

You guys probably should have got someone from Sky Business to run an eye over this before running it. 120% annualised ROI? That’s pretty decent at the moment.

How much is Morrisons new gas fired power station going to cost ?

Probably all borrowed money!!!!

Simplistically that is 20% return over maybe two months 😳 what’s that annualised? 🤷🤔doesn’t sound that bad

Qld C19 pandemic medical response 'scientifically designed' around maximising ALP election poll results. Pallachook deserves time on the electoral chopping block! SharriMarkson

Allow the Free Market to sort out competition, innovation, products and encourage entrepreneurs. Government interference is the main cause of Wealth Inequality. Write to Govt & demand change. We have stuck our heads in the sand for too long. If everyone wrote change will happen

It is not much point hosting a major sporting event like the AFL Grand Final if no-one from interstate can come to Qld to watch up. You host these events not only for the exposure, but also for the tourist dollars.

So... much more value than the NSW Libs moving the Powerhouse Museum at $2bn cost or knocking down and rebuilding stadiums (another $2bn).

$15M into what? Siphon off $15M and say it’s for the footy.

Brilliant premier

Palaszczuk takes advice from health experts and ‘taxpayer funded pollsters’ | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk does not need expensive pollsters to tell her not to “kill the joint” because she’s convinced any infection is a failure.\n\nIt’s been reported the Department of Premier and Cabinet hired pollsters to gauge voter approval of the government’s COVID-19 restrictions.\n\nThe premier’s department spent more than $500,000 on the polls and a political strategist to shape Queensland’s economic recovery out of COVID-19.\n\nMr Kenny said this was a “shocking misuse of taxpayer’s money” and clearly contradicted her constant assurances that she is acting solely on medical advice.\n\n“Now it looks like she also acts on the advice of taxpayer funded pollsters,” he said.\n\n“You need a poll to see how people are doing in lockdown or without our jobs?\n\n“Let me give you the big tip premier, I reckon they’ll tell you it sucks.\n\n“You need to allow maximum freedom, maximum normality, not kill the joint because you’ve convinced yourself any infections at all constitute a failure.”\n\nImage: Getty AnnastaciaMP What would that insignificant flog do if all the Premiers were LNP? No wonder Australia is in strife when politicians listen to ‘alarmist clowns’: Kenny | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Chris Kenny says rampant incompetence along with “ridiculous fearmongering” about the virus has led to the overreaction by the states which has done extraordinary damage to society. \n\nMr Kenny said the fearmongering rife throughout the whole pandemic has not been limited to politicians and bureaucrats. \n\n“Once a fear merchant, always a fear merchant, Tim Flannery, has popped out to re-run his climate alarmism complete with a new virus angle,” he said. \n\nMr Flannery – who previously claimed dams in NSW would never see rain again – has recently spoken about “unprecedented, climate-fuelled megafires that were extinguished in February by damaging, climate-influenced floods”. \n\nHowever, Mr Flannery has now taken his “fearmongering” to include the virus where he links it to the aforementioned crises through the “great aerial ocean,” according to Mr Kenny. \n\n“The coronavirus also travels unseen through the great aerial ocean, insinuating itself in lung after lung, killing person after person, until it threatens our health system, economy and society,” he said.\n\n“There you go climate alarmist, and virus alarmism, all of a muchness to Tim. \n\n“It is a scary world out there, if global warming doesn’t get you, the virus will. \n\n“Some politicians listen to these clowns, no wonder the country is in strife.” \n\nImage: Getty Says an alarmist clown on sky Extra damage by saving lives?

Australia must ‘build first’ before opening the doors to more migration | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Peta Credlin says before Australia throws open the doors to migrants after the pandemic, there should be strong consideration on the “right values that we should all share” and the right facilities we all need.\n\n“With so much of normal life restricted, supposedly for our own good during the pandemic, thank God at least one part of government is still focussed on our freedoms,” Ms Credlin said.\n\nActing Immigration Minister Alan Tudge has just released a new version of the citizenship test designed to ensure new Australians understand and appreciate modern Australian values.\n\n“We can't be a cohesive community without adherence to the law, respect for our institutions, pride in our past, hope for our future, and affection and esteem for our fellow Australians,” Ms Credlin said.\n\n“The Australian experience is about people coming to a new land, wanting more freedom to live their lives, and being prepared to work hard to get ahead.\n\n“Especially now, with Melbourne surrounded by a 'ring of steel', in case someone tries to escape, it's timely we should remember that, and celebrate it”.\n\nHowever, Ms Credlin said the right economic considerations should be made, not just the “lazy economics” of higher immigration equals higher GDP growth.\n\n“Integrating migrants doesn't just mean inculcating the right values that we all should share; it also means building the right facilities that we all will need,” she said.\n\n“Before our population grows by another 15 per cent in a decade, we really should insist on building the water, power and transport infrastructure needed for everyone who's already here to keep their quality of life.\n\n“Build it first, then open the doors.”\n Oh fark off. In other words, let’s bring them in as long as they’re white anglos. Like drunk driving followed by rampant string pulling? Is that the sort of values we should all share? Ahh WhiteAustralia is that what you want DogBotherer

Australia's investment in low emissions technology 'would help to meet Paris target' | Sky News AustraliaAPPEA CEO Andrew McConville says the government’s investment in low emissions technology would go a long way to helping Australia move more rapidly to meeting its Paris climate change emissions reductions target.\n\nHis comments come regarding the federal government’s intention to broaden the remit of key energy investment agencies by focusing on low emissions technology and shifting from funding solely wind and solar projects.\n\n“For our industry, the oil and gas industry, we see we have a really important role to play, adopting technology to help reduce emissions and coming in alongside and complimenting renewables,' Mr McConville said. \n \n'So it’s good news.'\n Global lockdown has reduced man-made CO2 emissions, but had no effect on CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Australia was right to 'go hard and go early' on COVID response | Sky News AustraliaChair in Epidemiology at Deakin University Professor Catherine Bennett says epidemiologists still believe Australia's tactic to 'go hard and go early' in response to the coronavirus was a good idea. \n\n'I think it's a different story in different settings,' Professor Bennett told Sky News host Chris Kenny, \n\n'Here we did go hard and go early and I think in retrospect, we still think that's a good idea'. \n\n'Epidemiologists certainly did at the time because we didn't know enough about the virus'. \n\n But not twice with no way out. I guess her salary is secure? And hows that working out for people in Victoria
