"Opening doors and opening windows is much more effective than having air purifiers," Professor Spurrier said.
The decision is also at odds with the New South Wales and Victorian governments, which have ordered units for use in some school settings. "SA Health advice supports the department's position and confirms that natural ventilation is most effective."
SA is going to test trail their way in other words before the omicron surge
While literally true that air purifiers do not remove CO2, that was not the point. High CO2 indicates that ventilation needs to improve. Yes, bringing in more outside air is better than filtration. When it's cold, will outside air be brought in at the same rate?
How is that gonna go down when there's smoke in the air?
''Opening doors and opening windows is much more effective than having air purifiers,' Professor Spurrier said.' I'm guessing Ms Spurrier has very little knowledge of meteorology. School return in SA is in the height of summer and daytime temperatures are likely to exceed 40+c.
It's best SAHealth, marshall_steven StephenWadeMLC be proactive with hepa filtration units prior to the onset of winter, if not beforehand
SA Ed dept dodging the dollars like NSW 🤪
I can't even... give me strength... 'air purifiers do not reduce the amount of CO2 within education spaces in any meaningful way and provide minimal improvement to the quality of the air' It is not MEANT to reduce CO2! OH COME ON!! Stop taking us for fools!
CO2 isn’t the problem, it is a PROXY for ventilation and not cleared by air purifiers - which DO work to clear virus. Holy shit, how can the people making these important decisions not know this stuff?
Sigh. Can we send the SA department of education this video by HaywardScoreCEO
So… they’ve done nothing. Where are the school air quality audits that the department said were happening? Didn’t even bother. Lazy 🤬
This is confusing, because HEPA filters do NOT filter CO2. They filter particles, like virus and allergens. CO2 is only a proxy for adequacy of ventilation. Ie: if the CO2 in a room is high, then airflow through that room is poor.
In Term 1 it’s typical for temp is 35 degrees plus. Plus heaps of kids with pollen allergies. We’ve already been through this in Vic. Air purifiers have been installed throughout much of hotel quarantine as a risk mitigation, with units ordered (only part delivered for schools).
Lmao, can we afford the sunstroke/skin cancer claims?
If Schrodinger's cat was Covid positive, taken to a hospital and fell over .... never mind.
Honestly. If a tree tests positive for Covid and falls in a forest, and all the teachers and students are in hospital with Covid, would it make a sound
My kids were at OSHC in SA this week and were told they had to play outside in the 40 degree heat as they needed to avoid being inside. This is a ridiculous concept!
Air purifiers do not decrease CO2 Isn't anyone going to ask why CO2 is being measured, and not Sars-cov-2 virus in the air?
Nicola Spurrier said the student's teacher & classmates would be able to continue in the classroom, but all must quarantine as 'close contacts' when not inside the classroom.” What if every class in the school has “one or two” with Covid? What happens at recess and lunch? 🤦♀️
That will be delightful in 40+ degree weather which is fairly standard in SA in February
All these fancy new schools being built, only for the classes to be encouraged to work outside…
Great idea! It was 40'c last week but all good... who needs A/C ...
Why does the State government hate your kids?
