It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's a flying car — western NSW town chosen as the test site for a new passenger drone.

Regional New South Wales will be the test site for 'flying car' technology, with officials saying advances in the sector could help those in regional areas overcome the "tyranny of distance".The vehicles take off and land like a helicopter and will be able to fly at speeds up to 300 kphAerospace company AMSL Aero will test its electric Vertical Take Off and Landing vehicles at Narromine's Aerodrome from next year.

"It means people can easily travel to jobs, visit friends and family in remote locations and deliver tourists to hard-to-reach outback havens." "It sounds like science fiction but the reality is a future where this is possible, practical and affordable is not that far away and I am proud that our investment attraction grant will help the development of this new technology and also support new jobs in regional NSW."Narromine no stranger to aviation
