Perspective: When Australian police and intelligence action puts the national relationship with China in the dock, it's more than sensitive. It's explosive.

If there were any doubt about Australia's resolve to stand its ground in the face of a full-force pressure campaign from China, those doubts evaporated on Friday. The moment that a dozen plainclothes federal agents arrived to raid the home of a NSW member of parliament at 6.30am, Australia's response to Beijing was unmistakeable.

But it was hard to take this very seriously at all. Because there was no hint that the federal government did anything whatsoever to actually enforce the law. The federal government cancelled Huang’s visa after ASIO advice. He’s now persona non grata. It was an important step. But it was an old-fashioned visa decision that removed one man from the equation. It was not a systemic response to a systemic problem.

Now, with Friday's raid, we see the first public evidence that it is on the job. Shaoquett Moselmane is a fool. That's no crime. He has said all sorts of foolish things expressing his admiration for the Chinese authoritarians and disdain for his own country. That's no crime either. We enjoy freedom of speech in Australia. It's one of the defining differences between the two countries.

"Australia is the canary in the coal mine of Chinese Communist Party interference," the former Beijing correspondent, now consultant, John Garnaut, wrote a couple of years ago. "Nobody knows what happens when a mid-sized, open, multicultural nation stands its ground against a rising authoritarian superpower that accounts for one in every three of its export dollars.”

China is hiding some facts about CORONA from the world, China is very shameless country

laughable political games...how does this help with our economy & unemployment problems. only trying to shift the focus

Globalist media and progressive Left choose Chinese Communist Party over Australian sovereignty!

Let us be frank. Our 'relationship' with China has exploded; it exploded ages ago, when we discovered how they were infiltrating our parliament and bribing our politicians. Who knows how far they've burrowed into our national security? They're the most insidious country on earth.

It will take lot more resolve and relentless watch to keep Australia safe from the tentacles of Chinese dragon. Nevertheless a step in the right direction.

a big problem to pick which group r loyal to Beijing In d last decade 60% of new migrants r from China We must have 2mils Chinese as mini chinatowns r mushrooming in d suburbs Are they friends or enemy? Brazil&US have had blacks for 200yrs but they have bad blood relation

The return of Mccarthyism... We will regret going down this dangerous road

What China needs to understand, is that Australia, like the rest of the world is not a part of China. We are not under their control. We are able to do what we please and not have to do things dictated by them. They have such a difficult time understanding that basic concept.

Possible links between Labor MP and China point to a 'deeper problem' in the ALP | Sky News AustraliaConcerns a Labor MP has been collaborating with China to further the communist government’s strategic and economic interests are indicative of “deeper problems” within the Labor party, according to Sky News host Chris Kenny. \n\nA major investigation has been launched into allegations Chinese government agents have infiltrated the political office of a NSW Labor MP. \n\nOn Friday, the Australian Federal Police raided the Sydney home and parliamentary offices of NSW Labor MP Shaoquett Moselmane.\n\nAccording to Mr Kenny, this was not the first time questionable links had been discovered between a Labor politician and the Communist Party of China. \n\nHe cited an incident concerning Labor Senator Sam Dastyaria who was forced to quit parliament after it was discovered Beijing was paying some of his personal bills and he was publicly spruiking Chinese foreign policy lines.\n\nMr Kenny pointed to Mr Moselmane’s similar track record of promoting Chinese aspirations regarding world dominance and global media control. \n\n“This is deeply concerning that a person seemingly so out of touch, so antipathetic to our national values, should sit in an Australian parliament, arguing for the rise of a communist regime that simply does not share our values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights”. \n\nThe ALP members who have enabled Mr Moselmane’s career must carefully assess their political values and ensure they put Australia first in the future, Mr Kenny said. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia Not surprised at all This is called foreign lobbying. Pretty common-place in governments all over the world. And the US does this to a much greater extent than China.
