The federal opposition’s housing for super policy has been slammed as a “nightmare for first home buyers”.

Labor MP Andrew Charlton slams opposition’s super for housing policy as ‘Nightmare for first home buyers’

The Coalition has committed to allowing Australians to withdraw up to $50,000 from their superannuation accounts to buy their first home. A policy that has also been extended to women who have separated from their partners and are trying to rebuild their lives. Labor's Andrew Charlton has slammed the Coalition's super for housing policy arguing it will only drive up prices. Picture: Sky News Australia. The member for Parramatta laid out an auction scenario to argue the policy would only result in higher house prices.

“What's the consequence of that? Who is the winner out of that auction? I'll tell you, it's neither of the new homebuyers, the only person who wins in that scenario is the vendor because those couples who turn up that auction to buy their first home will end up bidding against each other.
