Just weeks out from the West Australian state election, Liberal leader Zak Kirkup concedes his party has no chance of overcoming incumbent Premier Mark McGowan's popularity.

WA Liberal leader Zak Kirkup has admitted he does not expect to become premier after the March state election, and fears his party could be decimated by a Labor landslide.Zak Kirkup concedes the election will not be a close oneIn a highly unusual move by a party leader just two weeks out from an election, Mr Kirkup said he did not expect to win and feared the Liberals could be reduced to a single digit Opposition in terms of seat numbers.

"I have to be real with the people of Western Australia, and they are telling me that they expect Mark McGowan will still be Premier," Mr Kirkup said. "That doesn't mean we stop fighting, that doesn't mean we stop working to get as many Liberals over the line as possible."If there was no effective opposition in WA, how would we stop them when they go too far?"amid the COVID-19 crisis, and his popularity has been harnessed as a major weapon for the Labor Party during the state election campaign.

So we don’t have to vote now?

If the polling in WA is correct then any Liberals that are left, after the election, may as well become independents in order to be able to show some sort of relevance.

Michael obrien concedes defeat as well

Sounds like he thinks that the Libs are entitled to a set minimum of seats. Fairly arrogant position to take - their performance over the last 4 years, including howls to open the border by their party at state and federal level, and siding with Clive, means they deserve defeat.

Refreshing honesty in this revelation & yes - an effective opposition is required. I see no shame in accepting this is the best case scenario right now if willing to commit to holding the govt of the day accountable

Ha just a LIBERAL...actually his Mate O'Brian has also conceded ... looks like wipeout for VicLiberals also.

Well he’s speaking from experience here, Look at the Corruption the Federal LNP get away with because Labor don’t have the numbers to stop them, or a Federal ICAC, difference is WA have a Corruption commission and Mark MGowan is 100 times more trustworthy than Morrison.

Young fella i understand what the Liberal Party is up against and u r right we need checks and balances in Parliament, there for i will be voting for the Liberal Party, i appreciate your honesty.

Well, maybe better policies than giant batteries would help?

He’s right.
