Shein and Temu, online retailers known for their low prices, are set to surpass $2 billion in sales in Australia this year, causing concerns for local businesses unable to compete.

Online retailers Shein and Temu are on track to record more than $2 billion in sales in Australia this year, but their meteoric rise is coming at the expense of local businesses who cannot compete on price or match their relentless advertising strategy. Research from Roy Morgan shows that more than 2 million Australia ns are shopping each month with the online retailers , known for selling homewares, electronics, and apparel at dramatically low prices .

"The number of people that are shopping on these platforms is quite extraordinary," says Michele Levine, Roy Morgan's chief executive. "When we were first thinking about whether we measured them, I actually thought they'd be too small to pick up.But the split between the two retailers isn't even — 1.2 million Australians shop with Temu each month, while 770,000 people are checking out on Shein. "By our survey estimates, we would say Shein probably has annualised sales of over $1 billion, and Temu has $1.3 billion," Ms Levine say
