NSW is expected to grab one-third of the COVID-19 vaccines destined for Australia as Premier Gladys Berejiklian pushes for thousands of quarantine workers to be vaccinated first

With NSW recording its 17th consecutive day of zero locally-acquired cases and Victoria its 28th day on Wednesday, the people at greatest risk of contracting the virus - and the greatest need of the vaccines - are those working in close proximity with returning travellers.

“The numbers of international travellers coming into Sydney is a key point of risk not only for NSW but for the entire Australian community,” Professor Kamradt Scott said. Professor Kamradt Scott expected the tribalism between states and territories over border closures and COVID cases in the past several months would pivot to vaccine allocation“I would imagine the state and territories will have various arguments to put forward about why they warrant more vaccines ...

“We know roughly one-third of quarantine workers and healthcare workers are going to be in NSW. On average you would expect NSW to get about one-third of the vaccines,” Dr Duckett said. “Obviously our health experts are already in negotiations and discussions, and as soon as we have something concrete to convey to the community, we will,” she said.

Gezzz Kate, they really need to introduce basic statistics to the journalism course at uni. For moments like this 😂

If nsw has the ‘gold standard’ and are doing a bang up job, they should go to victoria first as a high need state first

Uh. That’s because NSW has more people.

Newsflash: NSW is approximately 1/3 of Australia’s population.

This headline pisses me off. We have 8 million people living here which is 1/3 of the population. No one is “grabbing”

Well, NSW does about about 1/3 of the population. Makes sense really.

Umm the vaccines have been proven efficacious but aren’t there still questions around if they actually stop transmission? Cause that’s sorta a big thing when it comes to who should be vaccinated first, just saying

Well they have 1/3 of the total population of Oz don't they so that makes sense.

Couldn't produce our own and now we cannot access enough. Congrats to all Liberal voters over the last few decades.
