March, April take mental toll, ABS survey reveals | JennieDuke swrighteconomy

One in 10 working-age Australians have felt depressed during the coronavirus shutdown with women particularly vulnerable to misery, while widespread restrictions continue to hit the economy.

Overall, 9 per cent of working age adults felt so depressed nothing could cheer them up. One in 10 discussed their negative feelings with a doctor. "Adults aged 18 to 64 years were nearly twice as likely as those aged 65 years and over to experience feelings related to anxiety at least some of the time," Ms Marquardt said.

The survey revealed about 17 per cent of households were having to take extra actions to survive, including dipping into savings or term deposits. Three per cent had reduced home loan repayment to make ends meet.

Parents have had to use technology to allow grandparents, aunts and uncles to meet their latest family member. Yes disgusting isn’t it. It will not be my ‘New Normal’ however much you try and brainwash people. My daughter had a baby 7 weeks ago. But if you think “rules” meant I couldn't visit or hold her, there's a bridge I have for sale you might want to look at. My first grandchild was born 7 weeks ago. I live in Qld and he lives in SA. Thanks to a complete over reaction to corona virus my flights to visit were cancelled and i can't even drive to see him. This week he had to go back to hospital. It's inhumane.
