An investigation by South Australia's Ombudsman has found Burnside Council employees made 'quite alarming' food and alcohol purchases on corporate credit cards over a two-year period.

A South Australian ombudsman investigation has highlighted the extent of Burnside Council's loose use of its credit cards between 2015 and 2017.SA's ombudsman found Burnside Council guilty of maladministration over its use of corporate credit cards

The investigation canvassed 466 credit card transactions made by council employees between July 2015 and August 2017. In his findings, Mr Lines said he did not consider spending ratepayers' money on food and alcohol a standard part of doing council business.
